THE HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE CITY OF HIGH POINT
RECEIVES FAMILY SELF-SUFFICIENCY GRANT
The Housing Authority of the City of High Point (HPHA) has been awarded a $152,445 grant for its Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program which will allow the HPHA to continue its efforts to help program participants gain access to education, job training and employment. HPHA will connect families with supportive services that will lead towards achieving economic independence and housing self-sufficiency.
FSS participants sign a five-year contract that requires the head of the household to obtain employment and no longer receive welfare assistance at the end of the five-year term.
A recent participant of the program shared her personal experience with the FSS program saying, "I have learned so much, gained so much within this short time and have really started to address my goals. I have been able to decrease my spending and start a savings account for myself as well as open my children a savings account. I have completed my CNA and MedTech classes, and received my license in Medication Technology. FSS is one of the best programs to get into because it has so much to offer to a family that is trying to get on their feet - step by step to produce a more positive outcome."
This is a great program, and the HPHA is excited that we are able to continue our efforts.
