You Could Be the Next Pillars of Fame Honoree or the First Rising Star Award Honoree!

High Point, NC – For the ninth consecutive year, the Housing Authority of the City of High Point (HPHA) is accepting nominations for its annual Pillars of Fame honor. And for the first time, nominations for a Rising Star Award recipient are also being accepted.

The concept of the Pillars of Fame was established in 2005. The Housing Authority of the City of High Point has always been concerned with the well-being of youth in our communities and wanted a way to present positive, encouraging images and role models. HPHA leadership believes that youth will be influenced by former residents of Public Housing or Section 8 who became successful leaders and pillars of the community.

Past recipients of this honor include Albert A. Campbell, Pridell (Dell) L. McCormick, Sheriff BJ Barnes, Jerry Wayne Camp, Bruce E. Davis, Valda Boyd-Ford, Glenn Chavis, Bernita Sims, Angela G. McGill, Keith McInnis, Jeffrey Golden, Christopher Townsend, Estie Bennington, Alfred Poe, Mary Lou Blakeney and Bobby "The Fuse" Green. These outstanding individuals’ pictures are permanently framed onto the pillars at Astor Dowdy Towers located at 701 E. Green Street, High Point, NC.

In 2014 for the first time, an additional award will be presented to a Rising Star. This award was created to encourage and award exceptional accomplishments of high school students of the current Public Housing or Section 8 programs.
